Henry & Christi Dennard honoring Sadie Grace Dennard

Sadie Grace Dennard was a great cook. Cooking and eating good food were at the heart of her hospitality and her love for her family and others. Sadie was born in Houston, Texas, in July 1932. While living in Houston, she learned a lot about Italian cooking from her mother, the child of Italian immigrants.

In the early seventies, Sadie later moved to East Texas, living in Tyler and then in Bullard. While in East Texas, she became an expert in Southern Country cooking.

When she moved to Bullard, she went to work in the Bullard High School cafeteria. She became the life of the lunch line. Known as Mama D, everyone enjoyed her cooking and her personality. She made lasting positive impressions on the students and faculty she served. She worked at the high school for over 20 years until her retirement in 1994. At the suggestion of her family, she wrote down all her Italian and Southern Country recipes in a notebook to share with future generations.

The Sadie Grace Dennard Endowed Scholarship was lovingly established by Christy and Henri Dennard.
